How Catfishing Works
|
Catfishing usually follows a pattern. First, the catfisher creates a fake profile using stolen photos and a made-up name. Then they find a target and start talking to them. Over time, they build trust and friendship. Once the target trusts them, they may ask for money, personal information, or private photos. |
|
Most catfishing cases happen on social media platforms like Instagram, Facebook, and TikTok. The catfisher often pretends to be someone attractive and successful to make the target interested in them.
What is KK Park?
KK Park, located in Myawaddy, Myanmar, is the largest scam centre in Southeast Asia. Organised criminal groups run large-scale online fraud operations there. Victims are often lured through fake job offers, and then forced to carry out catfishing, phishing, and other cyber scams targeting people around the world. It has become one of the most notorious symbols of modern online fraud.
Why People Catfish
There are many reasons why people catfish others:
- For money — They trick people into sending them money.
- For revenge — They want to hurt someone they know.
- Out of loneliness — They are unhappy with their own life.
- For personal data — They steal information for phishing scams.
- For fun — Some people think it is a joke to trick others.
